A Delta Airlines passenger endured an excruciatingly awkward customer service call after discovering the representative was none other than his ex-girlfriend. The embattled flyer detailed the unpleasant exchange in a viral Reddit post.
“I’ve heard of an ex, but I’ve never heard of talking to one through customer service,” wrote the unidentified passenger – who was flying with his wife and child – as he recounted the “weird” conversation.
The Redditor said he received a call from Delta customer service about an unspecified issue when he noticed the “voice on the other end was familiar,” via the post.
It was soon realized by both parties that they were talking to their former flame.
“We had a little bit of a brief, ‘Oh wow, I didn’t expect it to be you’ moment when we realized who the other one was,” recalled the passenger, who claimed his ex had a few hits in this new life .
“As we started talking, she confirmed a few details about me and my trip and then in a sarcastic voice, “Wow, first class with wife and kid, huh? Very fancy,” he recalls. “We didn’t have much time or anything. She seemed a little jealous.”
In fact, the bitterness was apparently so deep that his ex-girlfriend neglected to help the poor fellow with his problem.
“She said she couldn’t help me with my case and I quickly ended the conversation,” he wrote. “The woman next to me was confused.”
The man’s Redditors sympathized with his deadly blast from the past with many joking that his bitter ex would take away his Delta benefits because of him.
“Partition costs you a lot of upgrades in C+,” quipped one.
“Bro is mysteriously at the bottom of every upgrade list until the end of time,” wrote another. “He’ll be a 360 billion delta miler and never get the upgrade.”
They added, “My condolences, OP. I can only imagine what would happen to me if some of my exes caught on.”
A third advised the poster to “delete this post and go anonymous” as he could otherwise risk revealing his username to his ex “if she’s an r/delta reader”.
Others criticized the former hostess for allowing personal matters to override her duty as a customer service professional.
“Her comment was unnecessary,” one critic lamented. “She should be more professional.”
“Every customer service call center I’ve ever worked in has asked us to transfer a call to another representative if it’s someone we know personally,” said another. “This representative should have done that.”
Another advised: “You should make a complaint. The last thing Delta wants is CS reps shaming customers for choosing first class.”
Some commenters even asked the Redditor to check if she canceled his flight — which he claimed was not the case.
