They won’t jog this reaction.
Australian Swifties were feeling kind of serious bad blood after a “weird” and “awful” Taylor Swift concert where performers read cue cards on the ground and swore in front of children.
“Worst concert I’ve ever been to,” raged attendee Saga Wessman on Facebook as she blasted the event, which went down on Sunday at Night At the Barracks in Manly, Australia.
Called Taylor Made: A Celebration Of Taylor Swift, the Fyre Festival-like affair was organized by feminist Clementine Ford, 43, after she failed to secure tickets for Swift’s Australian tour earlier this year.
The performance was therefore billed as a concert for those missing the pop star’s time Down Under, and featured local artists such as Alex the Astronaut, Charley, Clare Bowditch and Lucy Durack.
Unfortunately, the cover gig – tickets costing $55 to $100 (USD) – fell flat on its face with many disappointed guests flocking to social media to trash the failed bash.
Many criticized the performers for reading the lyrics off the floor and making the crowd sing along to the songs because they were “too hard”.
“There was just no effort,” said concertgoer Anna Green, who took her daughter to the show for about $90 a ticket.
“For $130 I’m expecting a smooth performance, but it looks like they put it together in about three days,” she said. “The lead singer didn’t know the words and looked very uncomfortable. It was karaoke.”
Green ended up leaving the “terrible” tribute early and has since filed a formal complaint with the Barracks.
Savannah Brown, 25, said she was surprised to see so many children in the country, despite ads recommending “Taylor Made” for people aged 13 and over because of its “adult themes, humor and some swearing”.
“She would sing one [Taylor Swift] song about heartbreak and then be yourself, don’t let people hurt your kids!” Brown shouted criticizing Ford’s performance. “That was so weird, you’re not Taylor Swift.”
Ford and co. also sang songs from the early days of the “Antihero” singer’s career, which resulted in awkward silence from the audience, many of whom were not alive when she wrote the ditties.
“On the bus home, my friend turned to me and said is this our Willy Wonka experience?” said Brown, referring to the infamous event in Scotland that went viral for its shambolic setting and grim-looking performers.
Parents were also horrified by Ford’s frequent use of profanity during her post-performance speeches. “The main memory of my seven-year-old self is Clementine Ford swearing while talking to the crowd, not ideal,” Aoife O’Connell snapped.
While the price was a safe step away from the real deal — tickets for the upcoming US and Canadian legs of the Eras tour start at north of $1,000 — fans were still clamoring for refunds.
